Sweet way to spend a weekend
Voluntarily submitting to long queues and having to wait patiently in line doesn’t sound like a good way to spend a weekend…unless it’s for free chocolate. Sunday saw thousands fill the Scope Exhibition Hall in Norfolk for just that reason – the annual Virginia Chocolate Festival.
For one admission price, guests could sample chocolates of every description, from pure chocolate chunks to baked goods to popcorn to wine and alcohol. If you could mold it, bake it, coat it or mix with it, you’d have found it there.
Looking for a summer camp? Schakolad Chocolate Factory was passing out flyers for a three-day, super-sweet summer camp.
Looking for hot new drink recipes to help cool you down this summer? Get in another line for samples of Three Olive’s strawberry vodka.
Having troubles making up your mind? Don’t go near Tastebuds Popcorn…they’ve got over 150 selections to choose from including some great chocolate flavors.
Demonstrations on the stage featured various merchants showing off their skills in classes by the Culinary Institute of Virginia, Carolina Cupcakery, The Royal Chocolate and Schakolad. People filled the bleachers to learn some new techniques and more often than not, partake in the results at the end of class.
