We’ll be heading to Salt Lake City later this month for the annual Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, where manufacturers and retailers meet to preview the newest in outdoor gear. Major categories at the show consist of gear and apparel for adventure travel, backpacking, camping, hiking, climbing, mountaineering, cycling, mountain biking, fishing, fly fishing, health and fitness, military, nutrition and natural products, paddle sports, watersports, SUP (stand up paddleboarding), pet products, running, trail running, surf, skate, lifestyle, triathlon, multisport endurance, and their newest category yoga/Pilates.
If the raft of promotional emails received in the last couple weeks are any indication, there are going to be some really interesting products to try out. Here’s just a small sample of my things in my inbox:
D6 Sports announced something I can’t wait to try out. An inflatable SUP (stand up paddleboard). Seriously. It’s supposedly amazingly stable and comes in a convenient backpack. I’ve got a pond out front just waiting to give it a try.
The Selk’bag is the first, wearable sleeping bag I’ve ever heard of. Instead of being stuck in a bag-shaped sleeping bag, how about a person-shaped sleeping bag? Now how come nobody thought of that before? Looking to give this one a try a.s.a.p. (See below for video.)
The Joey Chair – named for the baby kangaroo and the compact pouch it lives in – packs down to the size of a large California burrito (4x4x14) and under 2 lbs. Featuring a lightweight drawn aluminum frame, shock cord system to avoid lost parts, the highest seat height of any competitor, and durability developed from 30 years of camp chair manufacturing.
A new dual-lens action camera (the ATC Chameleon) that lets you pick two different views at a time and records them both simultaneously. Watch yourself and the world at the same time, from Oregon Scientific.
Acclaimed by athletes, coaches and chiropractors for people who spend the better part of each day on their feet, Barefooters—the innovative Euro-styled slip on shoes that literally feel great to wear.
The Kilroy is Jackson Kayak’s first fully outfitted sit-inside fishing and hunting kayak. It’s geeked out with all the typical JK innovations like the Elite Seat, RAM placement, GoPro mounts etc., but also includes some brand new innovation for storage, standing, fly fishing and hunting.
Pacsafe is introducing their new Venturesafe line of luggage and travel packs with the new Roobar anti-theft anchor lock technology.
From the looks of things, this should be an exciting show. Stay tuned for hands-on demos of these and more in the coming weeks.
