Grand Trunk Double Hammock

The double hammock fits in a self storing pocket.

In honor of National Hammock Day (who knew,) it only seemed fitting to do a quick review of a hammock built for two that’s small and light enough to go where ever you go. All you need are a pair of trees, or one tree and your rooftop car rack, and you can be swinging in seconds. The Double Hammock from Grand Trunk weighs just over one pound, even including the included rope and carabiners for hanging.

The first thing that will impress you is that the whole thing comes packed in its own carrying sack – about 5″ in diameter and 9″ long. Slipping open the drawstring top, you pull out the nylon hammock which opens to 10’6″ long and 6’6″ in width at the center. That’s certainly big enough for two and so big you might get lost if you enter it alone.

The carrying sack is attached along the edge at the center and becomes a handy place to place your wallet, cellphone, car keys or anything else you don’t want to lose.

All the fabric is made of high-strength, mildew-resistant nylon with triple-stitched seams and supported by nautical-grade carabiners. Including the enclosed hanging ropes, the whole package weighs in at 20 ounces.

Grand Trunk Double Hammock

This thing is plenty roomy for two or more occupants

Finding where you want to hang your hammock will probably take longer than actually setting it up and jumping in. Hint, four paces is about 12 feet apart and that’s what you are looking for. Two trees about 12′ apart and you are golden.

I first became aware of Grand Trunk two years ago when my son gave me a Nano-7, the ultralight single hammock by Grand Trunk. I loved it and first used it in the Amazon jungle in Brazil.  Worked like a charm and still shows no wear even two years later.

The double hammock from Grand Trunk comes in a choice of eight dual-color choices. There are also six print selections at last count.

If you are reading this article the day it was posted (and you would be if you subscribed to my blog) you’ve got just enough time to enter the drawing by Grand Trunk for one of many hammocks they are giving away.  But hurry, this contest ends July 20th, 2013.   See details here: http://bit.ly/14tn76l
