Who said you couldn’t teach an old car new tricks? ZTE Mobley is AT&T’s first in-vehicle Wi-Fi hot spot. The ZTE Mobley delivers Wi-Fi connectivity to any car built after 1996 – just plug it in once and you’ll be connected anytime you hit the road. This device is great for upcoming holiday travels or even your daily commute.
Why leave the best of music, entertainment, news and travel info at home on your desktop when you travel. Now, “you CAN take it with you.” By that I mean, you can take the Internet wherever you drive with a ZTE Mobley, the little device that plugs into any car’s OBD II port (all those made since 1996.)
Simply activate the device with AT&T and you’ll have AT&T’s 4G LTE network 24×7 Wi-Fi available in your car and for a good radius around it. Attach up to five devices at once, so unless you are driving a school bus, everyone of your up to five passengers can be reading, downloading or watching their favorite programs.
I had the occasion to use one on my last trip to Chicago – about 350 miles each way. With just two pauses in the entire round trip, I had brisk speed Internet availability 99.99% of the trip. Listening to Amazon Prime was better than listening to XM Sirius. No ads and nothing to break the musical mood.
Plus, anytime I pulled into a rest area, I had full keyboard access to my email, Facebook and social media using my favorite little Yoga 900 notebook from Lenovo.
Anyone can install the ZTE Mobley. You literally just line up the center slot of the Mobley with the center slot of the OBD port under your dash, and push it in. But, before you do, copy down the password printed on the outside of the Mobley case. You’ll need that the first time to register the device.
Turning on your car, it takes 10-30 seconds to connect with the cloud. Type in your password and you are good to go. All users in the car can share the same password.
Key features:
- Fast Network Speeds: A Qualcomm MDM9215 processor, along with AT&T’s 4G LTE network, gives fast speed and performance.
- Convenient: No need to turn the ZTE Mobley on and off. Wi-Fi is on when the car is on.
- Customization: Networks can be customized through AT&T’s Wi-Fi manager home page.
The price on the ZTE Mobley is the same nationwide and can be purchased online and in AT&T stores. With a two-year contract to an AT&T’s DataConnect plan (starting at $20 for 1 GB or $30 for 3GB), the unit is free. The ZTE Mobley can also be added to a Mobile Share Value plan for an access charge of $10/month. Without the two-year contract, the ZTE Mobley is $100.
