Key lime pie, panthers and outlet malls – RV adven...

Got five days?  “Maximize your adventure opportunities with an RV.” That was our mantra for the second part of our 2016 RV adventures in Southern Florida.  Picking up a 37’ Class A Thor Challenger motorhome from Planet RV in Broward County, FL, we were off in search of three of Florida’s must-do activities. Key West, Florida If you’ve ever wanted to experience some of the most beautiful seaside locations in the US, Key West has to be right up near the top.  Even the 120+ mile drive through the Florida Keys is a visual treat with the multi-hued Atlantic Ocean out one window and the Gulf of Mexico out the opposite window.  Huge, puffy white...

Touring the Class A RV – inside and out

We returned the Class C motorhome after traveling to Georgia, and now we are venturing out again in a Class A motorhome from Planet RV in Broward County, FL.  Flying into Fort Lauderdale, their location (3030 Burris Rd, Davie, FL 33314) proved to be perfectly central to the places we wanted to visit. We wanted to see Savannah, GA and it was an easy 6-hour trip north in the Class C.  After picking up the Class A RV, we were off to explore Florida’s southernmost destinations – Key West and the Everglades.  We’ll finish off with Southern Florida’s largest outlet mall outside Fort Myers. But show us the motorhome Our biggest request from our...

When buying an RV you could use a friend in the bu...

Earlier this year, we started discussing RV travel in No Boundaries For Us magazine, and we wrote about our experiences based on traveling in pop-ups, truck campers, and van campers. But we’d never tried the “big boys” of camping, the Class C and Class A RV’s. Heading south, we had the good fortune of connecting with Gigi Stetler of Planet RV in Broward County, Florida.  We wanted to take out a couple different RV’s so we could compare and contrast the different models and classes available. Luckily, she had a number to choose from during the limited dates we were available.  We made our reservations last month and began our travels last...

Packing it all in an RV – is there enough ro...

This was our first experience driving a large RV, and for other seniors or newbies to RV’ing, we’ve learned a lot that we’d love to share.  The questions we’ve received most are: how much space is there in a Class C RV, and how much can you carry with you while you’re traveling. I hate to state the obvious, but they both depend on the size RV you rent or buy. This article and video will give you a tour of the inside and outside of the one we got from Planet RV in Broward County, Florida.  It was a 2013 Thor Chatea u 31 feet in length. Other Class C RV’s could be larger or even up to 50% smaller, so use this as a guide for a comparable large...

Setting up camp in a...

Is setting up an RV complicated? How long does it take to set up camp after you park? Can a single senior handle a big RV by themselves? These were all questions we’ve heard, and with our current rental, we wanted to find answers to all these questions.  In a sentence, seniors, know...

Why an RV tops a hotel

Part two in our 2016 RV adventure series This is our first experience driving a large RV, and while I often wondered about the advantages of traveling like this, we are now quickly getting some real life examples.  For us, a pair of senior travelers, the idea of RV travel has proven its worth multiple times already.  Being able to change plans and travel as the mood hits us has been extremely liberating. This is part two of our series on traveling in large RV’s. If you missed article one, you might want to go back there to learn more about this unit that we are driving from Planet RV in Broward County, Florida.) Class C RV’s can be very...

2016 RV Adventure – part 1

You can take it with you…if you’re driving an RV. That’s been one of my favorite assumptions, and we are off on a 10-day RV adventure to see how it works in reality. Thanks to the good folks at Planet RV in Broward County, Florida, we’ve been able to schedule back-to-back RV rentals, and we’ll be trying out both Class C and Class A motorhomes over the next 10 days.   What’s it like to drive something that big? Is a big RV hard to drive? Don’t you have to learn all sorts of mechanical stuff when you’re setting up camp?  How do you keep in touch if you don’t have Internet or cable TV?  Can you really be comfortable without your...

Tough Mudder preview Nov07

Tough Mudder preview

Tough Mudder – Central Florida November 8 and 9, 2014 Tough Mudder is a 10-mile long obstacle course designed to test the strength, endurance and perseverance of each competitor.  Not a race, it’s more of a personal challenge and an opportunity to help team members and other participants do their best. Funds are raised for the Wounded Warrior Project and to date, over $6-million has been donated to the cause. We got a chance to preview the course this week and with obstacles with names like Walk the Plank, Artic Enema, Ladder to Hell and Electroshock Therapy, it sounds like it’s going to be an awesome event. Fishing and birding on Lake Toho Nov06

Fishing and birding on Lake Toho

Lake Toho – Kissimmee, Florida Went fishing for large-mouth bass on Lake Toho today.  What a great smooth, easy to fish body of water.  Lots of wildlife to enjoy between bites. As we fished, and occasionally needed to refresh our bait,  we would toss the old bait into the water. Quite unexpectedly, an osprey spotted us and dove down within four feet of our boat to scarf up the shiner we had just tossed overboard. Never had time to grab a camera, but he was super close.
