Add a point of interest

CLEVELAND, OH — I was recently in the Arcade with my point and shoot camera in my pocket. Realizing I didn’t have any current pictures of this historic building, I decided to spend a couple minutes taking some shots. On looking at the shoot later on, I realized that my first shot was so typical of what many beginners would likely do….walk in the front door, pull out a camera and try to take as much in as possible with one shot. Unfortunately, from my point of view, while it’s a good shot from the point of symmetry, it doesn’t […]

A paper shower – no really, it’s a great way to clean up

[…]packed in individual, tear-open foil packs that are small enough to fit into your shirt pocket.   I know people who’ve tried to use moist towelettes intended for cleaning your hands after a messy meal, but these are so small and so highly scented that you end up smelling like a lemon. Even more importantly, they aren’t big enough for a whole body wash, and the sticky feeling stays on your skin.  Enter the Paper Shower.  Tearing open the separate sleeves for the moist and dry towels, I was immediately impressed with the size of the towels. These were bigger than […]

Product Review – Travelpro Crew 8

[…]wires outside the pack while keeping your MP3 player tucked safely inside.  An expandable mesh pocket on the front of the carrying strap enables you to keep your phone easily accessible. When opening any zippered compartment, it’s nice to notice that all the fold out flaps have fabric hinges to prevent your belongings from falling to the floor should you release your grip. A pullout mesh pocket is also handy for that bottle of water you bought to bring on board. In the main compartment, there is a folder divider to separate your magazines, file folders, etc.  The nice part […]

[…]these for fine dining one evening.  With their wrinkle resistant finish and drop-in cellphone pocket, this will quickly become your goto slacks. Give-N-Go Boxer Brief  Ex-Officio now has now expanded their line of underwear for women as well as men. All are designed to be lightweight and easy to care for while on the road. This was the first time I had tried the men’s boxers however.  With 94% nylon and 6% spandex, they are going to fit better than most – no matter what type of body profile you have. With just a touch of stretchiness, they kept the […]

The Why Café – a book review

[…]“little books.”  You know the kind – 100 to 200 pages and small enough to stick in a jacket pocket.  I like knowing that by the end of the trip, for sure I’ll have been able to finish the book. When I traveled from Cleveland to Columbus this week for the Ohio State Spring Football Game, the book I took was The Why Café. “The Inspiring #1 Bestseller” was written across the top of the book jacket. Already it was pulling me in. I regularly look for inspirational books – just to keep me from getting too comfortable in my […]

Briggs & Reilly BRX Excursion Field Bag – product review

[…]computer charger, cords, WiFi access point, hard drives, or whatever else. In the outside access pocket, you’ll find a padded pocket for phone or camera as well as pen/pencil loops and a business card slot, big enough to carry a week’s supply. On the outside flap, there is one more zippered pocket, useful if you don’t want to open the whole bag. This zipper is water-resistant as well, so no more soaking wet plane boarding passes. The flap is held in place with two quick release clips. The strap is long enough for the tallest traveler but adjusts down to […]

All dressed up – let’s travel

[…]of movement. Classic tailoring details include a two-button front, shapedshoulders, chest pocket, flapped hip pockets, and back vent. And inside thereare four zippered security pockets. Made of 85% polyester/13% nylon/2% spandex. And slacks too As a perfect complement to the coat, I also pickedup a pair of their FlatFront Denim Pants. Available in denim and dark denim, these are somecomfortable, smart-looking slacks. With just a hint of Lycra in the fabric anda hidden, stretch waistband, these slacks just fit great, day after day. I gotthe darker denim ones, and they don’t show dirt the way my khaki pants do. Evenon two-week […]

Possibly the best work pants on the market

[…]multi-pocketed pants and these are no exception. On a couple recent photo shoots, I loved all the pockets and pouches – ten in all.  Many were large enough for photo lenses & meters so I could leave my heavy photo vest in the truck.  The four largest have flaps that can be velcroed inside to make them easy to reach into while you’re working, but then they pull outside and cover the contents when you’re not. (Watch the video to see them in action.) Genius! Tree-climbers probably know better than most what kind of stretch you need in a pair […]
