With spring sure to show up sooner or later, thoughts are already turning to spring parties on the patio. And what goes better with patio parties than wine? So, to get the maximum impact with your wine, I’d like to share some recent, great discoveries from the fine folks at Waring.
Waring’s Wine Opener (CRS50)
When it’s time to open a new bottle of wine, it’s always fun to see inexperienced people pull out a wine opener they’ve probably only used just once or twice before. Where to insert it? How many times to twist it? When do you start prying it up? How fast do you pull it out? All questions that most people would rather avoid if only possible.
Formerly, to get an automatic wine bottle opener, you were talking about spending a considerable sum of money, something casual wine aficionados were most likely not going to do.
Enter Waring, with their new Electric Wine Opener. Simple yet elegant in looks, this cordless wine opener couldn’t be easier to use. It even comes with a simple to use foil cutter, stowed neatly in the charging base. A couple spins and this will neatly slice any foil covering.
Simply lift the Electric Wine Opener from its charging base and slip it over the top of your wine bottle. Press the “remove” button and within seconds, any cork is pulled cleanly away from the bottle. Now, press the “eject” button and the corkscrew reverses rotation, handing you the cork for recycling or disposal.
The opener is easy-care stainless steel and will open up to 50 bottles of wine on one charge. If you serve more bottles than that in one evening, I want an invite to your next party.
Waring’s Wine Chilller/Warmer
Experts will tell you that your wine’s flavor is measurably enhanced when served at the proper temperature. Indubitably, that temperature is never “room” or “patio” temperature. So what’s a hostess to do? Glad you asked.
The Waring Wine Chiller/Warmer (PC100) has a “brain” with a database of 33 of the most popular wine varieties and knows just the perfect temperature for each. Depending on whether your bottle is warmer or cooler than the perfect temperature, it will heat it or cool it until it is spot on.
Depending on the ambient temperature and the wine’s temperature, it could take a few minutes to half an hour to achieve the perfect temp. You’ll actually get a read out of the intended temp as well as the current temp, so you’ll know as soon as it’s ready.
A little hood goes around the top of the bottle to help it achieve temperature faster. Once you open the wine, you can replace it in the chiller/warmer to maintain the correct temperature.
There is a fan involved in the unit which is noticeable, so you may want to place the unit away from soft conversation.
After retrying a few of my favorite wines served at precisely the correct temperatures, I have to agree with the experts – it DOES make a difference. Now, luckily, there’s an easy way to make sure it’s always perfect.
