Origin WIreless brings you wireless security – simple enough for anyone to install

The Hex Command unit from Origin WIreless is the main sensing unit for this home security system.

Finally, a security system without those “hardly hidden” cameras all over the place.  This Hex Home system, by Origin Wireless, is a breeze to install (under 10 minutes) and offers a number of advantages over a camera-based system. To the casual observer, it appears to be a nightlight that glows slightly when it sees motion.

I know a number of people who won’t install a security system, because they don’t want someone hacking into their cameras and spying on them. I think we can all concur – think of that late-night trip to frig in our underwear – oh my!

Well, Origin Wireless has that covered (no pun intended). Their system is based on wi-fi signals that can sense motion in places or at times that shouldn’t be there.  You then get a notice on your phone or an alarm can sound, or both – your choice.

This award-winning DIY home security system detects motion by analyzing the way Wi-Fi waves bounce, break and bend around people.

The base module for the system (called the Hex Command) is simple to install. Just plug the power adapter into the wall and plug the other end into the command unit.  Set it on a table, shelf, etc. or hang it on the wall.

Then install sensors (called Hex Sense) in any areas you wish to monitor. The install consists of three simple steps:  1) take it out of its box and 2) sync it with the app by taking a photo of the QR code, and then 3) plug it into a 110v outlet. Then, just follow the instructions in your app and set your preferences. To increase coverage and resolution, additional Hex Senses can be added.

The Hex Sense unit is what senses movement near the unit and sends a Wi-Fi alert to the Command Unit.

Using the app, homeowners can view real-time and historical motion levels in their home and change system modes to manage the siren, customize alerts and manage their home security from anywhere.

You’ll have the opportunity to have it monitor only (Guardian mode), and send messages to your phone, or actually start a loud siren alert when it senses motion (Away mode). You can manually turn it on and off from the app or you can schedule times for the various functions. You can also press the “Siren” button from your phone and start the siren from anywhere, anytime.

Some scenarios:

Let’s say you are watching your grandchildren and you don’t want them playing around your workbench in the basement or garage.   Simply plug a Hex Sense over the workbench, and your phone will alert you the minute it senses motion.

Here, I’ve tucked the Hex Sense in a power strip – small enough to fit just about anywhere

Or, I can see a big usage here for the elderly who live alone. While they all want to maintain their privacy and don’t want cameras looking in on them, this can offer a perfect solution. Let’s say they typically get up and make coffee in the morning.  Put a Hex Sense near the coffeemaker and have it alert your phone when awake each morning.

Then put another one in their bathroom, and it will alert you each time they enter the room.  Totally private, but you can glance at your phone any time of day and see that activity continues as normal. If not, it’s time to pay a visit and check out why not.

Actually, the use cases are innumerable when you think about monitoring anyone you love or care for – from kids to parents to grandkids.

This should be the future of home security – simple to install, unobtrusive in the home, accurate alerts, and flexible for your needs. Check out all the details at their website: https://myhexhome.com/.
