…cut the cable, not the entertainment
The Projector
With the Leisure 470 R, you get a compact, easy-to-use, affordable projector and the advantage of 275 live TV channels via Roku Express. The projector is very capable, despite its small size. On the side, you’ve got multiple inputs so that you can hook it up to multiple devices at the same time.
There are two HDMI ports, so in addition to the Roku Express, which comes with it, you can still also hook up a gaming system, a laptop, or a second movie source. Two other options exist for playing videos or photos on the projector via either a USB-A port or a micro-SD card. There are also AV in and audio out 1/8” jacks.
The control panel is located atop the projector with all the standard buttons for Play/Pause, left, right, up, down, input selection, menu, OK, and power. The Leisure 470 also comes with a remote (including all the same controls), so you don’t need to sit next to the projector to operate it.
Atop the projector are two dials for focus and keystone adjustment (+ or – 15°). Under the unit, a threaded kickstand spins out to raise the front of the projector.
The projector can be used for front or rear projection as well as inverted and suspended from the ceiling. It has a 1/4”x20 mount in the bottom, so I can be easily attached to a camera-style tripod. It has a built-in 3W speaker and only weighs 2-1/4 pounds. With the audio out port, you can easily connect external speakers if you have a large crowd.
The ideal mounting and projection distance is 9’8” from the screen, which will create a 90” diagonal image. But, you can use it as close as 4’3” for a 39” image and as far away as 26’6” fpr a 250” image.
The native resolution of the projector is 1280×720 pixels – which is what’s known as full HD or DVD quality. It will, however, display other resolution video from 576i, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p.
The Roku Express
The Roku Express player is included in the box with the Leisure 470R projector. The hookup couldn’t be simpler. Merely connect an included HDMI cable from the Roku to the projector and either power the Roku from an outlet or from the projector’s USB port. Add the enclosed AAA batteries to the remote, and you can enjoy entertainment without the monthly bill. As long as you have a good Wi-Fi source to the Internet, you are good to go.
The remote control is compact and includes one-press selectors for Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, and Sling.
The steaming unit comes with an adhesive mounting strip if you want to permanently attach it to your TV or entertainment center, but I’d prefer to leave it loose, so when I travel, I can take it along.
If you install the free Hulu app on your phone, you can search with your voice and have a second remote. It works with Siri, Alexa and Hey Google.
