Preserving the old traditions, here you\u2019ll be able to find authentic hand woven wool sweaters, shawls, blankets, hats, mittens and more.\u00a0 The color choices are legendary and very Irish. They are known for their Aran Tweed knitting wool and the oh-so soft Merino Donegal knitting wool.<\/p>\n<div class=\"et_pb_slider et_pb_slider_fullwidth_off et_pb_gallery_post_type\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slides\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Studio-Donegal-2134.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Studio-Donegal-2135.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Studio-Donegal-2154.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Studio-Donegal-2161.jpg);\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>If you can arrange a tour of facility, by all means go.\u00a0 The quality of their craftsmanship is even more amazing when you see the old-school methods they continue to use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Killybegs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pushing on further east, we encountered a really picturesque harbor town called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.killybegs.ie\/\">Killybegs<\/a>. Turns out this is the largest fishing town in all of Ireland. If you are a fisherman and want some good fishing, this area around Donegal Bay is supposed to be among the best.<\/p>\n<div class=\"et_pb_slider et_pb_slider_fullwidth_off et_pb_gallery_post_type\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slides\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Killybegs-Harbor-1873.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Killybegs-Harbor-2172.jpg);\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>Other water sports including kayaking, scuba diving and paddle boarding are popular as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Castle Murray House <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Close-by is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.castlemurray.com\/\">Castle Murray House Hotel &amp; Restaurant<\/a>, a boutique 10-room hotel with a fabulous restaurant overlooking McSwyne\u2019s Bay and the ruins of McSwyne\u2019s castle.\u00a0 The restaurant\u2019s menu changes seasonally as they try to source as much local produce as possible. A wide variety of wines will pair with whatever you select.<\/p>\n<div class=\"et_pb_slider et_pb_slider_fullwidth_off et_pb_gallery_post_type\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slides\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Castle-Murray-Hotel-8607.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Castle-Murray-Hotel-8612.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Castle-Murray-Hotel-8615.jpg);\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>We enjoyed lunch here and then relaxing on their patio with a cup of tea.\u00a0 The expansive view is amazing.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of activities are available close-by.\u00a0 Check their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.castlemurray.com\/\">website<\/a> for details under the \u201cActivities\u201d tab.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Donegal Town<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The historic town of Donegal can trace its roots to a Danish fort built here in 1159. Much more recently, like another 300 years or so, the O\u2019Donnell Castle was built. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donegaltown.ie\/Donegal-Town-History\/\">You can read about its history<\/a>, but suffice it to say the owners were usually at odds with Lady Luck for most of its history. \u00a0Now it has been partially restored and interesting tours tell the whole story, including why the circular stairwell to the tower goes up and to the left.<\/p>\n<div class=\"et_pb_slider et_pb_slider_fullwidth_off et_pb_gallery_post_type\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slides\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Donegal-Castle-1796.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Donegal-Castle-1818.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Donegal-Castle-1837.jpg);\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>If you haven\u2019t found enough places to buy souvenirs yet, you might want to stop by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donegalcraftvillage.com\/\">Donegal Craft Village<\/a>.\u00a0 Unfortunately most of the crafts are too big or too heavy to take back home on the plane, but if you really like them, they\u2019ll be happy to ship.\u00a0 A few of the shops do make interesting jewelry \u00a0and woven goods that would be perfect for tucking in those few unfilled corners of your valise.<\/p>\n<div class=\"et_pb_slider et_pb_slider_fullwidth_off et_pb_gallery_post_type\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slides\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Studio-Donegal-1774.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Studio-Donegal-1773.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Studio-Donegal-1775.jpg);\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>For some great dinner, you\u2019ll want to try the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oldecastlebar.com\/\">Olde Castle Bar and Red Hugh Restaurant<\/a> on Castle Street. \u00a0From 5-7 p.m. they offer a special value menu, so come early or be prepared to wait. Once you\u2019ve found it, you\u2019ll be rewarded with some of the best steaks and seafood to be found.\u00a0 The seafood chowder was one of the best I can recall, and the little fish cracker floating on top was adorable, but I ate him too.<\/p>\n<p>Ready to turn in after a long day of hiking cliffs and castles, we retired to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.millparkhotel.com\/\">Mill Park Hotel<\/a>.\u00a0 They offer a wide variety of room accommodations from singles, to twins to executive doubles as well as two bedroom apartments. They also feature a leisure center with steam room, large pool, fitness room and hot tub.
