Hackers can modify the hardware behind these charging stations so that once you plug in, your device may silently authorize a data connection. This gives attackers a chance to install malware or steal sensitive information, ranging from photos and emails to login credentials or even remote control of your phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"900\" height=\"514\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image.png?resize=900%2C514&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-108860\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-04ab264\" id=\"br-if-your-device-is-juice-jacked-hackers-might\" data-block-id=\"04ab264\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><br>If your device is\u00a0juice\u00a0jacked, hackers might:<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Steal your personal and financial information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access accounts tied to your email, banking apps, or social media.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Install spyware that tracks your keystrokes or location.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-1362aa0\" id=\"what-to-do\" data-block-id=\"1362aa0\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">What to do:<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Immediately disconnect your device from the suspicious port.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Run a reputable antivirus or mobile security scan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change passwords for critical accounts (banking, email, social).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Watch financial statements closely for unusual activity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In severe cases, consider backing up your data and doing a full device reset.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-88850cb\" id=\"juice-nbsp-jacking-nbsp-is-designed-to-be-invisible-and-most-of-the-time-it-will-be-difficult-to-detect-that-its-happening-but-red-flags-include\" data-block-id=\"88850cb\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">Juice&nbsp;jacking&nbsp;is designed to be invisible and most of the time it will be difficult to detect that it&#8217;s happening. But red flags include:<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A sudden pop-up asking you to \u201cshare data,\u201d \u201ctrust this computer,\u201d or similar prompts when all you wanted to do was charge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your phone behaves oddly afterward (slower performance, overheating, and faster battery drain).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It\u2019s most likely to occur in high-traffic public spots: airports, train stations, convention centers, or hotels. These places have lots of travelers in a hurry, which creates prime conditions for attackers to exploit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-bcaa507\" id=\"what-steps-should-people-take-to-protect-themselves-from-juice-jacking\" data-block-id=\"bcaa507\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">What steps should people take to protect themselves from\u00a0juice\u00a0jacking?<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>If prompted, always choose \u201cCharge Only\u201d and decline \u201cShare Data\u201d or \u201cTrust This Computer\u201d when plugging in.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use a personal AC adapter and wall outlet. They only deliver power, not data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carry a portable power bank.
