TripAdvisor released a survey today that indicates more families will be planning family trips this year than in years past. According to the survey, 92% of families with children are planning either a domestic or international trip in 2010. <\/o:p><\/div>\n
With over 1,100 families surveyed, indications are that 33 percent of them will be taking both domestic and international vacations this year. This is a 5% increase over 2009.<\/o:p><\/div>\n
Another interesting trend uncovered in the survey was the fact that youth of today are far more likely to be well traveled than their parents.<\/o:p><\/div>\n
n  <\/span><\/span><\/span>75 percent of travelers\u2019 children (those under the age of 18) have visited more than six U.S. states \u2014 only 37 percent of these children\u2019s parents had traveled as extensively by the same age.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
n  <\/span><\/span><\/span>73 percent of travelers\u2019 young children have experienced international travel, compared to 44 percent of their parents by the same age.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
n  <\/span><\/span><\/span>Travel is very important to a child\u2019s education, according to 52 percent of travelers with children, while 35 percent believe it is somewhat important.<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
According to the survey, the biggest benefit of family travel is spending quality time together. The survey also revealed the five most likely activities that would be planned by families this year:<\/o:p><\/div>\n
1.     <\/span><\/span><\/span>Relaxing at the beach \u2014 69 percent<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
2.     <\/span><\/span><\/span>Visiting a historic site \u2014 62 percent<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
3.     <\/span><\/span><\/span>Visiting a museum \u2014 50 percent<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
4.     <\/span><\/span><\/span>Visiting a national park \u2014 46 percent<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
5.     <\/span><\/span><\/span>Visiting an amusement \/ theme park \u2014 41 percent<\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n
How does your budget compare with the survey results?<\/o:p><\/div>\n
n  <\/span><\/span><\/span>30 percent anticipate spending $1,000 – $3,000.<\/o:p><\/div>\n
n  <\/span><\/span><\/span>22 percent predict they will spend $3,000 – $5,000.<\/o:p><\/div>\n
n  <\/span><\/span><\/span>19 percent foresee spending $5,000 – $8,000.<\/o:p><\/div>\n
