By late 1704, hostilities ceased and Deerfield began to flourish. Then and now, Deerfield was a combination of village and rural life. The same fields that were tilled centuries ago are still producing crops today.<\/p>\n<h1>Historic Deerfield<\/h1>\n<div class=\"et_pb_slider et_pb_slider_fullwidth_off et_pb_gallery_post_type\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slides\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Deerfield-1415.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Deerfield-1365.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Deerfield-1361.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Deerfield-1351.jpg);\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<h2><strong>Deerfield library \u2013 art, architecture and ancestry<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Carefully preserved and authentically restored, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.historic-deerfield.org\/\">Historic Deerfield<\/a> is possibly one of the best documented towns in all of New England. Having relatives who settled in Deerfield in 1714, I was interested in researching to see what additional information I could find about the old homestead.<\/p>\n<div class=\"et_pb_slider et_pb_slider_fullwidth_off et_pb_gallery_post_type\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slides\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Deerfield-1443.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Deerfield-1444.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Deerfield-1442.jpg);\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>To their credit, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.historic-deerfield.org\/discover-deerfield\/memorial-libraries\/\">Henry N. Flynt Library<\/a> is open year-round (Tues. \u2013 Fri.) and has a wealth of information about the town and its former residents.\u00a0 Within minutes we were looking through old manuscripts, court records and receipts. Holding a receipt that was 300 years old was quite the treat.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Center\u00a0of Early New England Life<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Across Main Street, you\u2019ll find another gem of an institution \u2013 the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.historic-deerfield.org\/discover-deerfield\/museums\/flynt-center-early-american-life\/\">Flynt Center of Early New England Life<\/a>. One of only a few new-looking building in this historic setting, this 27,000-square-foot structure houses galleries and exhibitions that are as well done as they are fascinating. Of particular interest to me was the furniture exhibit. Not merely a collection of antiques, this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.historic-deerfield.org\/event\/exhibitions\/woods-crafting-early-american-furniture\/\">Crafting Early American Furniture<\/a> exhibit looks at the construction and design of historic furniture styles, deconstructing them in ways such that everyone could see the work behind the artistry. This particular exhibit runs through 12\/27\/15.<\/p>\n<div class=\"et_pb_slider et_pb_slider_fullwidth_off et_pb_gallery_post_type\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slides\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Deerfield-1553.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Deerfield-1550.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Deerfield-1547.jpg);\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>Other exhibits concentrated on diverse themes from colonial dress to powder horns. Upstairs in the \u201cattic\u201d were row after row of expertly displayed historical gems (toys, ceramics, chairs, weapons, etc.) each with an identifying number that could be further researched online. Very well done and very enjoyable, the center is open daily from 9:30 to 4:30 during the regular season, and on weekends only until April 18<sup>th<\/sup>. This historic inn and carriage house offers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deerfieldinn.com\/massachusetts-bed-and-breakfast.html\">luxury B&amp;B accommodations<\/a> at reasonable prices and Champney\u2019s serves three meals a day \u2013 fresh from farm to table.
