Lexar P20<\/h1>\n

The P20 is a slim sleek USB flash drive with metal alloy base and a glossy black finish on top. Larger than some of the more common foldable USB drives, I find it\u2019s just the right size for allowing a firm grip and being large enough to find in your backpack or messenger bag. Also, the USB tip retracts with a push of your thumb to keep it clean.<\/p>\n

Speed Test<\/strong><\/h2>\n

I recently tried the 64GB model of the P20 and enjoyed watching some HD videos literally fly onto the card from my desktop computer.\u00a0 I was obviously using a USB 3.0 port on my computer to get the best transfer speed, and your choice of port does matter.<\/p>\n

\"Lexar<\/a><\/p>\n

Right from the USB 3.0 port in the rear of my Lenovo B540<\/a>, it\u00a0hit speeds up to 180 MB\/s and transferred the 824 MB MPEG4 movie<\/a> in 4.4 seconds.<\/p>\n

\"Lexar<\/a><\/p>\n

Using an Inateck 7-port USB 3.0 hub<\/a>, it transferred at 33.9 MB\/s and took 32 seconds to transfer.<\/p>\n

\"Lexar<\/a><\/p>\n

For comparision, I tried the same file on a standard USB 2.0 flash drive and it took 213\u00a0seconds at 3.81 MB\/S.<\/p>\n

After experiencing the much higher USB 3.0 transfer, I\u2019m really spoiled.<\/p>\n

Security<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Besides the blistering speed, the other thing that sets the P20 apart from the pack is its security features.\u00a0 Included on the drive is EncryptStick Lite software.<\/p>\n

First, set a password protected folder with its 256-bit AES encryption to protect your files from loss or accidental deletion. But, this secure gate swings both ways, and when you choose to delete a file, it\u2019s gone forever and won\u2019t be recovered.<\/p>\n

Capacity<\/strong><\/h2>\n

After speed and security, the next criteria for picking a jump drive is probably capacity. The old adage holds true, whether for SD cards or jump drives\u2026buy as big a one as you can afford.\u00a0 There\u2019s never too much space and as digital photos and video get bigger and bigger, it won\u2019t seem anywhere near as big next year.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a handy chart from Lexar\u2019s website to show how many standardized files can fit on my 64GB P20. The P20 presently comes in three sizes: 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.<\/p>\n
