When you think of traveling, it\u2019s probably accompanied by visions of either business for your company or vacationing with your family. But, did you ever stop consider the effects of travel on your community and our nation. Tourism and travel are huge drivers for our economy.<\/div>\n

To celebrate all that travel does for this country, the first week in May is usually set aside as National Travel and Tourism Week. It\u2019s been celebrated every year since 1983 when President Ronald Reagan first suggested it.<\/div>\n

This week, this column will be focusing on some of the amazing facts about travel that you probably never knew.<\/div>\n

Employment<\/b><\/div>\n

Did you know that 1 of every 9 jobs in this country depend on travel and tourism.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Over 14 million jobs are affected by travel.  7.4 million of them are directly associated with companies who are in the travel business \u2013 like hotels, airlines, cruise lines, bus lines, etc. Another 6.7 million are in the support industries like catering, fuel, maintenance, etc.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Of those 7.4 million  who work directly for the travel employers, they earn a whopping $188 billion in payroll each year.  That makes travel one of the top 10 industries in terms of employment in this country.   <\/div>\n
