Winchester changed hands between the Union and Confederate armies as many as 72 times during the Civil War \u2013 and as many as 13 times during just one day. George spent years here in his younger life, surveying much of the area.<\/p>\n<div class=\"et_pb_slider et_pb_slider_fullwidth_off et_pb_gallery_post_type\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slides\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Winchester-6252-1.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Winchester-6254-1.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Winchester-6258-1.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Winchester-6259.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Winchester-6261-1.jpg);\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>Another storied hotel nearby is the Wayside Inn, the oldest and longest running inn in the United States \u2013 in business since 1797. They offer 22 unique rooms and suites furnished with period antiques and artwork.
