I\u2019m using a Kingston 64GB <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingston.com\/us\/flash\/sd_cards\">SDHC\/SDXC UHS-I Speed Class 3 (U3)<\/a>\u00a0card (Kingston<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0part #: SDA3\/xxGB) and loving it.<\/p>\n<p>When the action starts, the last thing you want to be doing is switching SD cards. Next worst thing is waiting for the write speed of the card to catch up with your picture taking device. Since I made the switch to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingston.com\/us\/flash\/sd_cards\">Kingston 64GBSDXC<\/a>, I\u2019ve never experienced wait times for the card to catch up with my shooting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/2014\/03\/26\/kingston-sdxc-can-keep-camera-whatever-shoot\/kingston-3867\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8801\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8801\" alt=\"Kingston 64GB SDXC and G3 Reader\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Kingston-3867.jpg?resize=600%2C400\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Kingston-3867.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Kingston-3867.jpg?resize=150%2C100&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Kingston-3867.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Kingston-3867.jpg?resize=140%2C94&amp;ssl=1 140w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I know better than to expect an infinite number of shots, so I did some testing to see what this little marvel could really handle. The specs are 90MB\/s read and 80MB\/s write \u2013 UHS-I Speed Class 3 (U3).<\/p>\n<p><b>Background:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m shooting 6,000 x 4,000 pixel (24MP) RAW images on a Nikon D5300.\u00a0 The D5300 shoots amazingly sharp photos, but is not known as a speed demon.\u00a0 The RAW images open in Photoshop as 68.7MB files, but are stored on the SDXC card as 27.3MB files.<\/p>\n<p>Starting at zero seconds, I held down the shutter button and proceeded to capture images until the camera paused to write information to the card. It took 55 seconds before the card couldn\u2019t keep up. In that time I was able to capture 101 pictures, which is the equivalent of 2.7GB of data. For the duration, that was almost 2 frames per second at full resolution.<\/p>\n<p>Shooting JPEG, (2.7MB files), I was able to rip off 100 shoots in merely 19 seconds or 5.263 shots per second.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first card I\u2019ve ever had that matched the specs for the camera I\u2019ve been shooting.\u00a0 Totally fun to shoot.<\/p>\n<p>The cards are available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB sizes.\u00a0 Each comes with a lifetime warranty and free technical support.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Wq2mQsp_cGQ\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/center><b>The reader<\/b><\/p>\n<p>To match the speed of your card, you\u2019ll probably want a high-speed card reader. Kingston has an incredible deal on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingston.com\/us\/flash\/readers#fcr-mlg3\">MobileLite G3<\/a> (about $10.)<\/p>\n<p>The MobileLite G3 has built-in self-storing covers that instantly retract to expose the two card reading slots as well as the USB connector. You can use it for either SD cards or Micro SD cards (without an adapter) or for the Memory Stick DUO cards.<\/p>\n<p>Rated as a USB 3.0 device, your data will fly through this at top speeds, getting you back to shooting or editing all that much quicker\u2026and isn\u2019t that what we all want.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks Kingston \u2013 kudo\u2019s on a great combination.
