The Titanic Belfast plays host to Titanic Studios where a significant part of Game of Thrones indoor filming was done. Fans of the fantasy series can take part in exhibitions at the museum, with pieces of weaponry, costumes and artefacts on display. If you happen to visit during such an exhibition, you could also have an opportunity to have a feel of the Iron Throne, amongst other attractions.

Other Places of Interest around Belfast

The other locations used for the filming of Game of Thrones are situated in the proximity of Belfast. Here are some of them that you may be interested in checking out.

Dark Hedges – This area is certainly one of the most popular Game of Thrones locations in Northern Ireland visited by fans. Dark Hedges was the route used by Arya Stark while trying to get away from King’s Landing.

Ballintoy Harbour – This is the location used for Iron Islands in season two of the series. Ballintoy Harbour, which has Larrybane nearby, was where Theon was re-united with his long-lost sister.

Cushendun – This little coastal village is where you will find the caves used for the birth of Melisandre of Asshai’s ‘shadow baby.’ If you love the spooky, you should also check out the caves here.

Castle Ward (Winterfell), Tollymore Forest Park (North of Winterfell) and Inch Abbey (the Riverlands) are some of the other interesting locations you need to check out.

Activities for Game of Thrones Fans

If you are interested in engaging in some activities based on Game of Thrones, you are covered. Fans can take part in Dragon boat ride over the Lagan. If you prefer to flex your muscle a little bit, you can try out archery at Castle Ward. There are also other activities such as kayaking, clay pigeon shooting and horse riding across the scenic countryside.

Where to Stay

Belfast offers something for everything in terms of accommodation. Whether you want affordable luxury (e.g. http://www.lamon.co.uk/) or something on a tight budget, there will be something for you.

Guest post by Danny Thomson, a travel writer who loves to explore, find, and create.
