But there is <span class=\"removed_link\" title=\"http:\/\/www.visitbardstown.com\/tourism\/resources\/2011AttractionsMap5.pdf\">so much more to enjoy in this area<\/span>. Right in Bardstown, there are three distilleries:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.1792bourbon.com\/\">Barton 1792<\/a>, Heaven Hill and Willett Distillery. We thoroughly enjoyed visits to two of them.<\/p>\n<p>Our first stop was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kentuckybourbonwhiskey.com\/home.html\">Willett Distillery<\/a>; 1869 Loretto Road; 502-348-0081. Willett\u2019s is one of the few remaining independently owned and operated distilleries, specializing in small batch Bourbon and Rye Whiskeys. If you\u2019ve tried Johnny Drum, Old Bardstown or Willett, they all come from this distillery.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"et_pb_slider et_pb_slider_fullwidth_off et_pb_gallery_post_type\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slides\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bardstown-7925.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bardstown-7915.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bardstown-7896.jpg);\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>Tours are available of the grounds and include a tasting session.\u00a0 On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, you\u2019d be wise to call ahead for reservations.<\/p>\n<p>Second stop was to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bourbonheritagecenter.com\/\">Heaven Hill Distilleries<\/a>; 1311 Gilkey Run Rd.; 502-337-1000. \u00a0Originally established in 1934, Heaven Hill is now the world\u2019s second largest holding of aged Bourbon \u2013 with 40 open rick warehouses situated across the region. Their Heritage Center is a great resource to learn about Bourbon and Bourbon distilling.<\/p>\n<div class=\"et_pb_slider et_pb_slider_fullwidth_off et_pb_gallery_post_type\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slides\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bardstown-7891.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bardstown-7882.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bardstown-7876.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bardstown-7872.jpg);\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Brand names you might recognize include Elijah Craig, Evan Williams and Parker\u2019s Heritage Collection. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bourbonheritagecenter.com\/tour-and-trolley-ride\/\">Tours range<\/a> from a half-hour with two tastings, to 1-1\/4 hours with three tastings to the \u201cBehind the Scenes\u201d 3-hour tour with an Educational Tasting in the Parker Beam Tasting Barrel with four of the best Bourbons to taste. Go for the latter if you have the time.<\/p>\n<p>Not a distillery, but worth a visit is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kybourbonmarketplace.com\/\">Kentucky Bourbon Marketplace<\/a>; 110 W. Flaget Street; \u00a0502.348.8611. When they have a special Bourbon Run, it\u2019s a great way to enjoy tasting, along with a great dinner and fabulous desserts. Set in a rustic, brick walled basement, the food is fabulous and the atmosphere makes for a most pleasant evening. Expect a wait \u2013 but it\u2019s worth it. The catfish sandwich and the fried pickles were amazing. The building was built in 1819 and is steeped in history.\u00a0 With any 200 year old building, you know you\u2019re not in for 21<sup>st<\/sup> century accommodations, so be happy if the Internet is actually working, but you came for the atmosphere&#8230;right?\u00a0 No matter what, it raises eyebrows when you tell your friends you spent the night last night doing time in the Old County Jail.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"et_pb_slider et_pb_slider_fullwidth_off et_pb_gallery_post_type\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slides\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bardstown-4905.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bardstown-4907.jpg);\"><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_slide\" style=\"background: url(https:\/\/dougbardwell.com\/db\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Bardstown-7946.jpg);\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>If you prefer modern conveniences, there\u2019s nothing more comfortable than the Hampton Inn Bardstown.
