In a rare turn of events, a former strip club in the city of San Diego is being remodeled into the San Diego Freedom Center – a non-profit center serving sex trafficking victims. Doesn’t that just smack of wonderful irony?

In reporting by Dave Schwab on sdnews.com, the center will be a clearinghouse for victims to receive information and assistance with housing, counseling, educational opportunities, and job placement.

Work is scheduled to be done by fall of 2022 according to Kristen Zimmerman, executive director of the center.

Zimmerman explains:

“As a nonprofit, the center is compelled by the belief that human trafficking can and will be eliminated in San Diego and survivors will receive the holistic support they need to flourish. The San Diego Freedom Center will provide free resources specifically for female survivors, age 18 and older, for their holistic needs in mind. Center staff will provide trauma-informed counseling, life skills, and job training, intensive case management to connect survivors to medical, legal, and educational resources, as well as basic needs like food, safe shelter, and clothing.”
