I must admit, it’s embarrassing as a citizen of an otherwise great state, to see your state score an ‘F’ in its response to human trafficking in our state.

Ohio’s Scorecard:

Before you go getting too smug, thinking that your state must be better, realize that only 10 states had a better rating than ’F’.

It’s acknowledged that the standards set by Shared Hope International are high – hence the low rating of many states –  but we’ve been talking about this for years and you would have thought they could be doing better by now.

We’ve discussed this before; but Ideastream brought it home to specifically talk about Ohio. In this interesting interview on The Sound of Ideas on IdeaStream Public Media, author Drew Maziasz points out:

This may not come as a total surprise to those who are aware of the terrible realities of human trafficking. Ohio, because of its central location in the nation, the amount of highways, and its urban areas – sees a lot of human trafficking activity.

While the results are disheartening, the report also serves as a call to action on what needs to happen, to more successfully combat sex trafficking.

What can you do?  Well, for starters, listen to the broadcast, then join me in writing your congresspeople – both statewide and national, asking for them to focus more resources to deal with this problem.
