Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp have said it’s time to get tough on human trafficking perpetrators. As one of the top locations for human trafficking, her tweet says it all.
Now that the numbers are out there, the State of Georgia has no other moral option but to come down hard to fight this injustice. Fortunately that’s what they propose to do with some serious penalties for those involved. For example, according to this report from CBS46 News,
Propsed legislation
New legislation would act as a voice for the voiceless.
Legislation 1 H.B. 823:
– Lifetime commercial driver’s license ban on anyone convicted of trafficking
Legislation 2 H.B. 911:
– Strengthens penalties for offenses of sexual misconduct by a foster parent.
Legislation 3 S.B. 435:
– Allow victims of human trafficking to change their names to protect their privacy. Another would allow victims to sue their traffickers in state court.
If you live in Georgia, now’s the time to contact your congress people and tell them to vote this into effect as soon as possible.
