Every Lent, I’d be willing to bet fish consumption goes up considerably as many Christians forgo meat on Fridays. But could that compound the problem of human trafficking for vulnerable seafood industry workers? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, yes<\/strong> it could!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turns out that the seafood industry, especially in third-world countries, is notorious for treating fishermen and others in a criminal fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AP Journalist, Martha Mendoza exposed the vile habits of human trafficking in the seafood trade, and more than 2,000 formerly enslaved people are free today because The Associated Press put a spotlight on their misery. These men were captives of Thailand\u2019s seafood industry, in some cases for decades, whipped with stingray tails if they asked for rest, risking murder by captains if they failed to please.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
