When a person is down, distressed, or at the end of their ropes – they don’t think clearly. It’s when they are most vulnerable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is exactly what a human trafficker looks for. With a little attention, a few compliments, maybe a gift or two – and all of a sudden this person seems to be just what the ailing person needed. It’s not a huge leap to all of a sudden be willing to drive off with this person to supposedly a great future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But that’s not what happens. Within short order, this person can find themselves separated from family and all those who really care for them, and now coerced into sex work or forced labor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One sure way to avoid this<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Improved mental health can prevent this or other terrible situations. And there are many resources for those who care about family or friends who may be feeling a bit out of sorts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One I re-discovered recently is the Crisis Text Line.<\/a> For a person to go see a mental health professional or a doctor takes a lot of fortitude. Exactly what they are probably lacking. But, to just text a number – not so much at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s where Crisis Text Line comes in. Their website explains it all:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Crisis Text Line? Crisis Text Line is free, 24\/7 crisis support by text message.
How does it work? When someone is in crisis, they can text HOME to 741741 to connect with a Crisis Counselor who will help them move from a hot moment to cool and calm.
Who are Crisis Counselors? They are trained volunteers who\u2014with the support of full-time Crisis Text Line staff\u2014use active listening, collaborative problem solving, and safety planning to help texters in their moment of crisis.

Check out their website ( https:\/\/www.crisistextline.org\/<\/a> ) for all sorts of ways you can spread the word to those in need, in person, or via social media. They’ve got assets you can post or send. There are also videos to watch for teens and those even younger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
