Perfect for camping, hiking, car camping, or picnicking

Whether it’s a multi-day backpacking trip, or a trip to the local park, often meal prep is a major part of the enjoyment.  Having convenient tools to use makes it all that much more fun.  Hence, you might want to consider the Hex Solo 6-in-1 Mess Kit from Ani Ani Outdoor.

Hex Solo 6-in-1 Mess Kit

This is going to be an ‘always-onboard’ item in my van, so I’ll be ready to whip up a meal on the road.  It comes with:

~a Nonstick Frying Pan- about 7”x7”x1-1/2”

~an Expandable Spork (Fork+ Spoon) – X 1 set

~a Wooden Spatula – about 6-3/4” long

~a 900ml Nesting Bowl – fits inside 7”x7” pan

~ a Collapsible cup – 3” diameter; 1-1/2” folded- 3” unfolded

~a 500ml Prep box with snap lip – 3-1/2”x 6-1/2”x1-1/2”

Just add a stove or burner, and some food stuffs, and with the Hex Mess Kit, you’ve got just about everything you need for a culinary adventure. In true Japanese minimalist fashion, they thought about what you need and what you don’t, and fashioned it that way.

Hex Mess Kit components

The Hex Non-stick Frying Pan is made of hard-anodized aluminum and coated with a non-stick layer. Folding handles fold back on itself to take up no extra room while in storage.

Not huge by any means, but there are dozens of meals that can easily be prepared in this pan.

Clean up after cooking some eggs couldn’t have been easier.  I just literally wiped the sides of the pan with a paper towel and set it aside, ready for lunch.

The wooden spatula is made of smooth Japanese cypress.  Not only can you cut and serve with it, but you can also use it as a small cutting board.

The prep box can be used for things you don’t want to get squashed: like fresh vegetables, delicate noodles, or the burner unit for your stove.  Or, if you keep it in the car for those unexpected dining opportunities, you can do like I do and keep those fast-food salt and pepper packets, along with mayo, mustard and ketchup packets, in addition to the cup and utensils.

The interior side of the box is marked with 100-500ml level markings in case you need a 16 oz. measuring cup.

The collapsible cup is made from platinum-grade silicone rubber and polypropylene, which makes it easy to grip. It holds a full eight ounces, perfect for my small coffee press.

Its double heat insulated design keeps your coffee or tea hot and prevents hot liquids from burning your hands. The cup is collapsible, but also is extremely sturdy and durable.

The detachable and extendable spork is made from nylon 6-6, (which prevents the non-stick layer of the frying pan from scratching and withstands high temperatures) and platinum-grade silicone rubber.

Use it as a two-ended spork combo for cooking or separate the tools when it’s time to eat, and use the two handles, one for the fork and one for the spoon.

The bowl is most generous in size.  There’s hardly a meal I can think of that wouldn’t fit inside comfortably.  BPA free, it’s made of easy to clean polypropylene. You can also use the bowl as a cover for your pan, but not when the pan is on the heat source.

Three combination rubber and elastic bands wrap up everything when you are done and keep them organized.
